John Tavares Skips Leafs Game After Birth of Son

Maple Leafs captain John Tavares will not suit up for the team's upcoming game against the Colorado Avalanche. The veteran forward is stepping away from the lineup to be present for the birth of his first child, a son, with his partner. Team officials confirmed the personal leave, noting that Tavares' absence is a family priority and that the roster will be adjusted accordingly for the contest. While the Leafs will rely on their depth forwards to fill the gap, the club expressed full support for the captain’s decision to be with his newborn. The timing coincides with a busy stretch of the season, but the organization emphasized that player well‑being remains paramount. Fans can expect Tavares to return to the lineup once his family commitments are settled, and the team will continue its push for playoff positioning in his brief absence.
